From Basics to Brilliance: Enhancing Neurosurgical Skills

How do you start your neurosurgical carrer?

Microsutures and basic craniotomies are the first basic steps in a neurosurgical career. Learning the most important skills on icrosuturing and on craniotomy are the basis to develop further skills and approaches in neurosurgery.

We are thrilled to share the fantastic feedback we received from participants of the Hands-On Courses held during the 12th Annual EANS Young Neurosurgeons Pre-Meeting and Research Course in Madrid over the past few weeks.

Following the Pre-Students Course, the second day focused on practical exercises during the Basic Neurosurgical Skills: Craniotomy and Microsutures Course. In total, 12 microscope and drilling stations were available, enabling every participant the opportunity to perform their own craniotomy approaches for the presented cases and to practice microsutures in a cranial simulator.

Overall, the training included:

  • Handling Microinstruments
  • Handling High-speed drills
  • Trepanation and Craniotomy
  • Dura Suturing
  • Durapatch/Dura replacement procedures
  • Artificial cranial bone replacement techniques

Before each training session, distinguished faculty experts delivered informative theoretical lectures, providing valuable insights. We extend our sincere gratitude to the generous sponsors, the Lab assistant faculties, and the Microsurgical Lab of the Instituto de Investigación Hospital Universitario La Paz (IdiPAZ) for their invaluable support.
