Building Bridges and Advancing Neurosurgical Research: The EANS YNN Mentorship Program

The goal is to bring the members of the Network even closer to one another and promote cooperation as well as introduce more junior members to international collaborations.

The EANS YNN (Mentorship Program is designed to provide a platform for less experienced members to engage in research, gain valuable insights into the research process, and foster collaboration among different units and YNN members.

This program aims to nurture the next generation of neurosurgeons by offering them the opportunity to develop their research skills and contribute to advancements in the field. In addition, the program serves as a steppingstone for participants who plan to apply for the EANS Research Fund in the future.

To participate in the Mentorship Program, teams must adhere to the following requirements:

  • Primary Members: Each team should consist of 4-6 primary members
  • YNN Membership: At least half of the team members must be active YNN members, demonstrating a commitment to the YNN community.
  • Multiple Units Involved: Collaboration across different units and institutions is strongly encouraged, allowing participants to benefit from diverse perspectives and expertise.
  • YNC Supervisor: Each team will be assigned a YNN Mentorship Program Supervisor, who will provide guidance, support, and ensure the smooth progress of the project.

Program Benefits:

  • Research Experience: The Mentorship Program provides less experienced members with hands-on experience in conducting research, including project design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Collaboration Opportunities: By bringing together members from different units, the program promotes collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and networking within the YNN community.
  • Skill Development: Participants will enhance their critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, which are essential for future research and professional growth.
  • EANS Research Fund Practice: The Mentorship Program serves as an excellent practice opportunity for participants who plan to apply for the EANS Research Fund in the future, familiarizing them with the fund’s proposal format and requirements.
  • Recognition and Awards: The best proposal(s) from the Mentorship Program will be awarded the EANS Young Neurosurgeons Research Prize, providing recognition for outstanding research and fostering motivation for further scientific pursuits.

Program Timeline:

  • Mentors and teams are assigned: July 10th
  • Team finalization: July 15th
  • Young Neurosurgeons session at the EANS Congress: September 24th – 28th
